The Spanish energy giant was chosen over the other 200 nominees due to the company´s performance in a context marked by a significant drop in crude oil prices. The judging panel also praised the transformative growth operation carried out with the acquisition of Canadian energy company Talisman.

The integration of Talisman allowed Repsol to diversify its portfolio of assets and become one of the largest publicly-traded oil companies in the world, according to the panel.

The CEO of Repsol, Josu Jon Imaz, said: “In this transformational year for Repsol, we have made the most of the strength we worked to gain in the last few years to lay the foundations for the coming decade. This award tells us that we are headed in the right direction and motivates us to continue working hard to achieve our goals.”

Platts President, Imogen Dillon Hatcher, stated that Repsol is a "brave, swift company that is demonstrating its strategic sense and its capacity to resist." Also, Platts said that since 1999, no company had won three awards in the same year.

This is the second consecutive year that Repsol has been named “Energy Company of the Year” by one of the most prestigious international publications, after being awarded the same title in 2014 by Petroleum Economist.

Repsol was also awarded the Downstream Industry Leadership Award by Platts, for its industrial asset quality and operational excellence. The Executive Managing Director of Downstream, María Victoria Zingoni, won the Rising Star of the Year Award for her successful career trajectory and leadership within the company.
