Bulgaria has welcomed its first hydrogen refueling station developed by Austrian company EDC Anlagentechnik.

The facility’s construction was led by local firm Monbat, who collaborated alongside Delektra and Akvahim, as part of the Field Laboratory ‘Integrated Energy Systems’ at the Centre of Competence (CoC) HITMOBIL. This project is designed to accelerate the development and deployment of technologies for renewable energy storage.

The site offers refueling at 350 and 700 bar via two inputs, the first is connected to an electrolyser and is capable of refueling 8.5kg of hydrogen daily. The second, is able to refuel vehicles from other sources, enabling more refueling capacity when needed.

In addition, the station can store up to 70 kg of compressed hydrogen and has a compression capability of 40-50 kg. Per day. This capacity allows refueling between 10 and 15 cars or two buses per day.
